About The Cottage ...

Rural, Quiet & Peaceful

The Old Railway Cottage-191.jpg

The Old Railway Cottage is one of four terraced cottages sitting just outside the village of Lydford and on the edge of the open access land of Dartmoor National Park.

The cottages were once rail workers cottages for the old Southern Railway line that runs from Okehampton to Plymouth and Launceston. The railway itself has been removed however the bridges and where the track used to run is still able to be seen, as well as the cottages that were home to the line workers

Easily accessible but up a privet drive, the cottage sits is a quiet area of Dartmoor. There is a front porch for coats and muddy boots, a lovely lounge with a log burner and a fully equipped kitchen.

There is a seating arear at the front and at the back of the cottage, each offering lovely views.

Upstairs to the front of the cottage is the master bedroom. This has a king size double bed. At the back of the cottage there is a snug and the railway inspired bathroom.

The garden is detached from the cottage and is accesses by a short fenced walkway. There is garden furniture and a BBQ.

Owner Run & Professionally Cleaned.

I can not wait to welcome you to our lovely little holiday cottage on the edge of Dartmoor!
This gem of a holiday cottage in its wonderful location on the moors, is looked after by me, Becky.
Every week I professionally clean the cottage myself and I am unashamedly proud of the cottage and how it is presented.  The Old Railway Cottage standard of cleaning (global pandemic or not) is always extremely high ready for our guests arrival.

Wildlife & The Environment.

Our  pledge;

Creating space for wildlife in the garden;

We have created and planted a UK native wild flower meadow boarder to provide habitat for moths, butterflies, bees and other pollinators.

Planting trees;

We have firstly planted some lovely trees in the garden at The Old Railway Cottage, and now that we have run out of space, we will now turn our efforts to supporting the planting of trees on an annual basis with local projects and charities.

Sustainable Cleaning Products;

We use plant based cleaning products for the majority of our cleaning and look for brands that use recycled packaging. However when it comes to anti-viral cleaner, we do not have a eco alternative but we do recycle all the containers as well has house hold recycling.
